About the fandom
Supernatural is an American television drama that follows the nomadic lives of brothers Sam and Dean Winchester as they travel around the United States in their black 1967 Chevy Impala. They hunt down and vanquish supernatural foes like ghosts, demons, and other mythical creatures. The Winchesters were raised in the hunting lifestyle by their father, who spent years seeking revenge against the demon responsible for his wife's death in 1983.
Destiel
Destiel is the canonical ship of Dean Winchester and Castiel from Supernatural. It is one of the main slash ships in Supernatural and the most popular ship in the fandom. As a matter of fact, Destiel is one of the four most popular ships in any fandom.
Destiel began when the character Castiel, an angel of the Lord who rescued Dean from hell, made an appearance. From that point on people started shipping these two characters. Many things speak for it, as there are plenty of scenes that give the viewers the impression that Cas and Dean may have stronger feelings towards each other than mere friendship. As it stands, the ship became canon when Castiel declared his love to Dean. Unfortunately, Dean was never allowed to react to that declaration.
Destiel's popularity is boosted by the close friendship between the two actors playing the roles; Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins, also called Cockles amongst fans. As a matter of fact, many fans wonder which came first, Cockles or Destiel.

In many Destiel fanfics Sam is often paired with a female character. Sam is mostly paired with one of the following women: Jessica Moore, Ruby, Amelia Richardson, Sarah Blake, Rowena MacLeod or Eileen Leahy, as Sam Winchester has had a canoncial relationship with all six of these women.
